Story Telling in Film
A Rum Story was my first foray into documentary film-making. It follows my quest to discover the source of rum, harness its power, and bring it home to the Guild.
Conceptually, A Rum Story involves the merging of three distinct elements: modern fact-orientated documentary film making, experience-led gonzo style journalism, and my own approach to life’s experiences – known as The Guild. The result is a light hearted, entertaining and surprisingly educational romp around the world of rum, in which I meet and interview those who make it, those who mix it, and those who drink it – and learn about their associated history and cultures.
Our intent was to use A Rum Story as the starting point for a full series or feature-length documentary, but alas the pandemic closed a lot of doors that have yet to re-open. Even so, it remains a clear example of a combination of styles that I intend to use as the basis for more documentary content in the future.
