Legless.
I can barely walk today. Yesterday was bad, but today is ridiculous. My feet won’t even lie flat on the ground! I got up in the night to get a drink and nearly fell flat on my face!
Like I said, ridiculous.
Still, I asked for this I suppose.
Things I Learned from the Half Marathon
1. A mile is a very long way – after two hours of running.
2. A mile is not a very long way – when being cheered on by the ones you love.
3. Volbeat make everything better – even running up Marlow Hill.
4. My cardiovascular fitness isn’t good – even if my legs are not designed for running.
It was around the 9-mile mark that my legs gave up. They just wouldn’t run any more! By the time I reached the finish line of the half marathon, my feet were barely leaving the ground. I fully intended to to a sprint finish, but could actually barely even move!
All I remember from the last 2 miles is blurry vision and blind fury at the fact they put another hill in before the end of the race.
All in all, I’m quite disappointed in my half marathon. Granted, I ran the entire thing without any real training or preparation. I did it as somebody who has spent years developing explosive power, which is not designed for 2.5 hours of large motor activity.
Even so, 2 hours and 18 minutes is simply too long. I don’t care how long they may have trained or how many half marathons they have run; it’s hard to look myself in the eye, knowing that there are hundreds of old and overweight ladies out there, with their knees bound and bandaged, who can still outrun me.
I must atone in the next challenge!
