What I've Been Up To

Battle Metal = Running Metal

This week, I was meant to do a 5km run and a 10km run, in preparation for my half marathon (21km).

As fate would have it, however, I ended up spending a lot of time on trains and driving classic cars instead. Poor, poor Ed.

When it got to Thursday night, therefore, I was ashamed when I realised I hadn’t done any running at all. So I did what any sensible, health-conscious, personal fitness trainer would do…

I took the two runs I had missed, added the distances…and ran the total.

15km later…I collapsed at my parents’ house in Bourne End. There was no pain…I had transcended the mortal realm… Nothing could rouse me from the cool, cool ground. Expect, of course, beer – which is the traditional way to finish a run in the Gamester household.

At least now I know I might just make it through the half marathon!! What’s more, I managed to complete the run in 90 mins – which is exactly the pace I need to maintain to do the half marathon in 2 hours!

So far, my half marathon training consists of:

5km on a treadmill
6km on a treadmill
7km on a treadmill
3 km on the road
5km on the road
10km on the road
15km on the road

I have 23 days left until the run itself and intend to do no running for at least 4 days, if not a week before the event. This gives me less than 3 weeks to be ready.

Having covered 15km, I ‘m confident that I’ll make it through the run in one piece. Managing to do it in a good time, what with Marlow Hill being the starting point, is going to be another matter altogether…

Final thought: Turisas make for incredible long-distance running music. Nothing rouses the energy reserves like Take The Day!
