R.I.P Kurt Cobain

On today, the 17th anniversary of the death of Kurt Cobain, I felt somewhat guilty about going to the gym, instead of playing my guitar and feeling sad. For this reason my training consisted of a single hour after work, followed by a lovely dinner to distract myself from musing about how much better music might be if Kurt hadn’t killed himself…

For anybody interested in following my training, I completed:

  • Bench presses at 50, 70 and 90kg.
  • Incline bench presses at 50, 60 and 70kg.
  • Triceps dips with legs out behind.
  • Triceps dips with legs out in-front.
  • A bit of boxing with the punch bag, by which point my arms were just about numb.

This wasn’t strategic. In fact, having done boxing the night before, it would have been wise to let my arms recover a bit. However, the free weights section of the David Lloyd’s gym I attend gets busy to the point of totally uselessness at around 18:00, so I didn’t have a lot of choice. Also, due to time restraints, I didn’t record my training into a video this time.  I’m also still a little peeved by the fact that my other video had the audio chopped out… I wonder what Kurt Cobain would think about that…

So, nothing crazy, but I headed out for dinner at ASK in High Wycombe afterwards, which was lovely. By the time I went to bed, however, I had got around to wondering how different things might be if Kurt was still around – would he still be making music and, if so, what would it be like? He’d be in his mid-40s for one thing! My best guess is that he’d be writing strange folk music, with vocals you’d expect from decades of substance abuse and screaming… He’d be…Tom Waites?! Oh heavens…
