Working Out Down Under
I haven’t been here long, but I have come to love exercising and working out in Australia.
I find it infinitely more energising than going to the gym in the UK, where even in the summer I have started waddling in stiff and aching from the cold, hunched over and dripping wet, wondering why I even bothered leaving the comfort of my house.
Here, in this beautifully air conditioned and spotlessly clean gym, I am loose, confident and full of purpose. I arrive warm and loose and I know that, when I leave, it will be out into a gorgeous sunny day, allowing me to cycle home and stretch my aching muscles with a walk by the beach or a swim in the sea, even in the middle of the night in Queensland's Autumn or Winter.
Don't get me wrong; I love the dust, oil and cold iron of British hardcore lifting gyms. There is something about surging into that environment out of the bitter cold that fires me up…at times. However, this Australian environment is one in which I feel I could really develop athletically, which is steadily becoming more important to me than any specific type of fitness.
This is something about which I am writing anyway, at the moment.
